The File Manager

Overview

The File Manager allows you to upload files, remove files, move them between folders and use the files in your pages.  There are limits on file sizes and on extensions.  As an administrator you can control which file types are allowed to be uploaded.  If you want to upload images, then use its companion the Image Manager

Using the File Manager

Locating / Opening:

In most cases you will use the File manager from within the Content Editor by clicking .  It is also available from the Admin Menu: .

Managing Files:

Once opened the Manager is reasonably self-explanatory.  The Manager file list is split into 'pages' of 100 files.  You can sort the files by clicking on the 'Filename TEXT' (not the column header), or on the 'Size' text.

Navigating: You can navigate between pages by either clicking on the Back and Forward buttons, or use the slider at the bottom of the page.

Viewing (Opening) a file: Select the file in the list, double click it, or click the Open File button, or right click and select from the context menu.

Renaming a File: Select the file in the list, right click and select 'rename' from the context menu

Deleting a File: Select the file in the list, click the delete button, or right-click and select 'Delete' from the context menu.  Be aware that the file may be in use elsewhere:File Delete Dialog  Click  to confirm

Creating a New Folder: Click the new Folder button, or right click in the File Manager and select 'New Folder'.  Give the new folder a name, and click

Deleting a Folder: select the folder, right-click and select @delete'  Click OK to confirm (see warning above!)

Uploading a File:  Select the folder in which you want to place the file.  Click

For each file you want to upload, click .  If you have more than 3 files to upload, click the  for each additional file. 

If a file exists and you have not checked 'Overwrite', NO files will upload.  We recommend that you always tick this box.

Click and the file(s) will be transferred to your selected folder.

Special Files

If you have administrator privileges you will be able to adjust the look and feel of your website by changing the skin, or container for a module.  To do this click .

From the list choose the action you want to perorm:

Click  to locate the skin, or container package (a ZIP file provided to you, or built by you) or custom module provided to you

Click to transfer the file and install it.  You should see the results immediately on going to a relevant page.
